Hello, I’m Wai Zhen and I’m an aspiring data scientist/data analyst from Selangor, Malaysia. I’m a recent Master’s degree graduate in the field of Data Science from University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur.
I used to study Civil Engineering for my degree but I have always wanted to be part of the technology revolution that uses innovation to create amazing ideas. This motivated me to leave the engineering world and transition into data science, shaping who I am today.
My background in engineering enables me to learn statistics and applied programming skills which really helps me throughout my transition into data science. Being a person who is not from computer science background, I realized that I need to put more effort in improving my skills and working on projects is the best way to achieve this.
To bring myself closer to my goal of becoming a successful data scientist, I have taken multiple online learning courses and completed a few data science projects in my free time to polish my data skills. I enjoy learning new things about data and strive to establish myself in the career of data science.
The part that I like the most while doing data science is the fact that I’m able to produce insights from raw data, and being able to produce machine learning models that successfully predicts certain outcomes that add values grants me the feeling of satisfaction which I love a lot.
My biggest personal accomplishment in my opinion is that I managed to complete 2 personal projects from raw data to deploying the models by myself without seeking help from anyone. One of my master’s degree visualisation project app has also been praised by the lecturer for being simple and comprehensive.
Upon graduation, I am currently looking for job opportunities in data science and machine learning. My main priority would be seeking for data scientist roles while data analyst positions would be my second choice. I am available to start work from 27 September 2021 onwards.
Taking courses from platforms like Coursera and LinkedIn Learning is a good way to learn data science.
The best way to learn data science is to work on projects and you can easily find free datasets on Kaggle!
Sometimes I participate in data competitions with my friends to challenge myself and test my capabilities.
LinkedIn is a great platform to connect with data influencers which you can obtain great data tips from them!
These are some of the programming languages and data technologies that I have learned.
I’m planning to add a few more projects into my portfolio in future when I am free.
If you like my work and would like to have a chat, feel free to contact me or connect with me on LinkedIn!
